Websites for lawn mowing and gardening businesses

A lawn mowing website built by someone who mows lawns

I've run Gecko Lawns in Hamilton since 2007 and built 70 websites and counting for other lawn care operators. I know what a homeowner is looking for when they Google "lawn mowing near me", because they ring me.

What goes on a lawn mowing website that actually gets calls

Most lawn care sites are a logo, a phone number and a photo of someone else's lawn. That's not enough for Google to rank you and not enough for a homeowner to trust you. Yours gets:

  • A page for each service. Lawn mowing, hedge trimming, garden tidy-ups, section clear-ups, gutter cleaning, whatever you do. Each one is a page Google can rank on its own.
  • Your suburbs named. "Lawn mowing Rototuna" is a different search from "lawn mowing Hamilton". The site covers the areas you actually drive to.
  • Regular mow pricing laid out plainly. Weekly, fortnightly, one-off. Homeowners want a rough idea before they ring, and the ones who ring after reading it are better customers.
  • Your own photos. Striped lawns, before and afters, your trailer. Phone photos beat stock photos every time.
  • Reviews that show. Your Google reviews on the page, plus a Google Business Profile linked and set up properly.
  • A Call Now button at the top on a phone. Because that's where they are when they search.

Why the suburbs matter

A homeowner doesn't search "lawn mowing New Zealand". They search their suburb or their town. Google wants to show them someone local. If your site only says "Auckland", you're competing with every operator in the city. If it says Forrest Hill, Milford and Takapuna, you're competing with the three other guys who work there.

What I've seen work

On my own site, adding a short local post every week took Gecko Lawns from about position 15 on Google to about position 7. A properly set-up Google Business Profile brings my own round 2 to 3 leads a week, all year. That's the setup you get, not a theory from a web designer who has never pushed a mower.
